At the Instituto Extremenho de Reprodução Assistida - IERA, we carry out reproductive treatments for women without a partner to help them with their desire to become mothers, regardless of their marital status.

For various reasons, an increasing number of women want to see their desire to have a child fulfilled and become mothers without a partner.
Portuguese legislation allows all women to have reproductive treatments, as described in Law no. 58/2017, of July 25, on Medically Assisted Procreation, which states that:
PMA techniques can be used by all women regardless of the diagnosis of infertility, as long as they are at least 18 years old and are not interdicted or disabled by psychic anomaly.All women, regardless of their marital status or sexual orientation, can use PMA techniques.

It is also important to know that Portuguese legislation on Medically Assisted Procreation differs from the regulations in other European countries such as Italy, France, Spain and Germany, in terms of access to treatments for single women and the anonymity of donors.
